Chatham Baptist to celebrate 150th anniversary
Tuesday, January 23, 2007 5:44 PM EST
Chatham Baptist Church will celebrate the first of seven Sundays commemorating its 150th anniversary Sunday, Jan. 28.
The worship service will begin at 11 a.m.
W. Rand Forder, his wife, Anne, and daughter, Elizabeth, will be special guests.
Forder was pastor of Chatham Baptist Church from 1987-1990.
A proclamation from the Town of Chatham will be read by Mayor George O. Haley. Town Council has been invited to participate in the service and luncheon that will follow.
Calvin Swart, Chatham Baptist Church's music director from 1973-1992, will provide a musical selection.
Several commemorative items are available for purchase. Orders can be mailed to the church office, P.O. Box 104, Chatham, Va. 24531.
The commemorative plate will be ivory with gold trim, full color reproduction of the Hibble painting of the church. It is 10 inches in diameter and will have a brief history of the church printed on the back. The cost is $25.
The Christmas ornament will be a brass cut out of the picture of our church with a ribbon hanger, gift box and card with a brief history. The cost is $10.
The wooden block replica is a handmade, finely detailed reproduction made from wood. Each piece is cut and then screen printed in full color to produce the most detailed reproduction available. (If you've ever heard of the ”Cats Meow” wooden replicas, these are similar). A brief history of the church will be printed on the back. The cost is $20.
This is an invitation to you to join in any of the Sesquicentennial Sunday Celebrations, which is a significant milestone in our history.
Our main purpose is to gather friends and family for a seven month family reunion as we celebrate 150 years of ministry and service.
