Avoca’s 8th Annual Harvest Jubilee and Wine Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, from noon to 6 p.m.

“Mark your calendar for a day of fun for the entire family,” Avoca Education Director Elizabeth Doan said, adding all proceeds will benefit Avoca in their largest fundraiser of the year.

Six wineries are slated to participate in the festival n Hickory Hill, Tomahawk Mill, Gabrielle Rausse, Savoy Lee, Rebec Vineyards and Peaks of Otter.

While sampling, those in attendance can listen to the Jimmy Buffet and Beach Boys styling of the Island Breeze Band.

“They’ll be playing the old standards that everyone knows,” Doan said.

Leslie Brooks will also perform R&B hits for the audience.

“We’re trying to have a good variety there,” Doan said.

A wide range of crafters is expected to sell jewelry, hats, baskets and rustic furniture, while Timberlake Massage will offer free chair massages.

The festival offers many activities for adults, but doesn’t overlook the kids.

“A lot of adults want to come and relax and listen to the music, so we tried to provide a safe, fun environment for the kids,” Doan said.

A supervised area will be set aside for the kids to play in an inflatable bouncer, color, blow bubbles, make crafts and listen to stories by Delano Douglas.

Refreshments will also be available. The Lion’s Club will sell barbecue, Avoca will offer Brunswick stew by the bowl or quart, the Staunton River Women’s Club will have chicken sandwiches and kid’s meals and Shirley Scruggs will offer traditional fair food like hamburgers and hotdogs.

Tickets are available at any First National Bank of Altavista location, Miller’s Jewelry on Main Street or Sunshine Cleaners. These discounted pre-sale tasting tickets are $10.

Tasting tickets at the door are $15 and general admission price for non-tasting is $10. Children aged three to 11 will be admitted for $5. All proceeds will benefit Avoca.
