Fatal crash leads to drunk driving charge

Saturday, June 21, 2008 7:13 AM EDT

A Blairs man involved in a fatal accident late Thursday night on U.S. 29 near Danville has been charged with driving under the influence and could face a manslaughter charge, according to Virginia State Police.

Earl Ray Eanes lost control of his 2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck just after 11 p.m., state police said.

The truck rolled over several times, and passenger Victor Samuel Jones, 48, of Blairs was thrown from the vehicle. Jones died at the scene.

Eanes was flown by helicopter to Lynchburg General Hospital, but has been discharged.

According to state police, this is Eanes' second DUI charge in two weeks.
