The Group A state champion Gretna Lady Hawks continue to rack up the hardware after All-State teams were announced last week.

Senior Ceseley Haynes was named Group A Player of the Year.

"She's very deserving of the award," said Gretna head coach Ketina Brooks. "She had an excellent season."

Haynes led her team with a .511 batting average and 26 runs scored.

Brooks was named Coach of the Year, but gave her team the credit for the award.

"I was completely elated," Brooks said. "It's a reflection of the whole team. They were able to listen and believe in the goals I set forth."

Senior Teresa Dalton, who was the regional Pitcher of the Year, was named to the first team.

"She's completely phenomenal," Brooks said. "Without her and her drive, none of this would have been possible."

Senior Cheryl Crews was named to the honorable mention list.

"She's been part of the dynamic battery for the past five years," Brooks said. "She was a vocal leader on the team."

Other area players named to the All-State team were senior Kelly Montgomery of Chatham, first team outfielder; sophomore Kasey Anderson of Chatham, honorable mention; and junior Brooke Short of Altavista, honorable mention.

Brooks knows her team will have to work hard after losing their three All-State members and three additional seniors.

"They're going to be hard to replace," Brooks said.

However, Brooks hopes this is only the beginning of success for Gretna softball.

"This is just a stepping stone," she said.

Dalton will attend Randolph Macon to play softball.

Haynes is going to Virginia Tech, but will focus on her academics.

Crews will attend Longwood University, but is unsure about her softball future.

Montgomery has a full scholarship to Gardner-Webb University where she will play softball.
