Man found guilty of resisting arrest

A Dry Fork man was found guilty in Pittsylvania County General District Court for resisting arrest.

David Keith Nibblett, 32, of 13609 Franklin Turnpike, ran from Cpl. M. Dawson, of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office, on Feb. 13.

Dawson testified he was looking for Nibblett to arrest him on a warrant for domestic assault and battery.

"No sooner than I took my hand off of him, he broke free and ran across a farm," Dawson said.

Nibblett's defense, represented by attorney Larry Gott of Chatham, questioned if Dawson actually told Nibblett he was under arrest.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Les Adams said Nibblett must have known he was under arrest since the defendant said he knew about the domestic violence charge.

"The officer didn't just bring up your baby's mama's name for no reason did he?" Adams asked Nibblett.

Judge George Jones agreed with the prosecution and found Nibblett guilty of resisting arrest.

Jones gave Nibblett a $100 fine and 30 days in jail, 28 of which were suspended.

" It's good to see the Sheriff is out there getting these violent people off the streets. Even if he did get away from the officer the first time, he must have grabbed him the second. Why run? They will get you sooner or later, and it will only add to the jail time. "
