First National Bank of Altavista's new branch in Rustburg should be open for customers early in 2009.
Officials from the bank, the design/build company and Campbell County broke ground for the 3,100-square-foot branch Oct. 1.
"I am excited as we begin to turn this dirt and site into a bank that I think will serve the Rustburg community very well," said Charlene Thompson, who will be the branch manager.
The bank will be located in the shopping center on Village Highway (Route 24) in Rustburg. It's expected to open in late January or early February of next year.
"We're happy to be in Rustburg. It's a logical fit for us. We think Rustburg is right for a community banking opportunity. We're happy to provide that," said Rob Gilliam, First National's president and chief executive officer.
Todd Hall, First National's chief lending officer who grew up in Rustburg, said the location is right since Rustburg is the county seat. He said the bank already has customers and employees from the area.
The new branch will be a full-service bank, offering drive-through service, night deposit, automatic teller machine, safe deposit boxes and a full array of business, retail, personal and investment banking products, said Thompson, who's been with First National 15 months and in banking 35 years. She also lives in Rustburg.
The branch will have five employees.
Thompson and William J. (Buck) Sydnor II, vice president for branch administration, said the Rustburg bank will focus on providing services and having personal relationships with customers.
PW Campbell of Pittsburgh, Pa., is the design/build company for the project. Area subcontractors are being used in the job. Construction and site improvement costs combined will be about $910,000.
A grand opening ceremony will be held later.
The Rustburg location will be First National's eighth full-service retail bank in the area. The Altavista-based company also has a loan production office at Smith Mountain Lake.
First National is celebrating 100 years of operation in 2008.
