Salvation Army kicks off Red Kettle Campaign
By HEATHER RORER/Altavista Journal Staff Writer

It's that time again. The familiar sound of ringing bells is a sign that Christmas is fast approaching.

The Salvation Army is gearing up for its Red Kettle Campaign.

The ringing will begin Friday, Nov. 14, at 9 a.m.

WKDE's Dave Hoehne and Ross Laboratories' Dennis Janiak will kick off the bell ringing festivities at the Altavista Wal-Mart that morning.

"The Salvation Army office is based in Lynchburg and helps folks in Campbell and Appomattox counties, as well as the surrounding areas," said Danny Dillard.

There are still open slots and volunteers are needed.

"We would love to have a church group or organization take a whole day," said Dillard.

"We welcome individuals, too," Dillard added.

The campaign will run from Nov. 14 to Dec. 24. To set up a time to ring the bell, contact Dillard at 434-283-5829.

"We encourage everyone as they come and go to help," said Dillard. "It is a very worthy cause."
