William Campbell Defeats Riverheads 64-6 The William Campbell Generals scored early and often Friday night to easily defeat the Riverheads Gladiators 64-6 in the first round of the Region B play-offs. On a cold and rainy night in Naruna the Generals went to work quickly. Stan Peerman returned the opening kick-off out to the Generals forty yard line. A missed blocking assignment upfront put the Generals into a second and twelve situation but Baron Adams would go up top and find a wide open Stan Peerman for a quick sixty-two yard touchdown pass. Donald Byrd's PAT was good and the Generals were up 7-0 with 11:09 to play in the first quarter. The Generals defense would perform just as well as the offense when on third down the Gladiators would go to the air again only this time William Campbell's Terrence Younger would step in front of the Gladiator pass for the interception an return it down to the Riverheads thirty-five yard line. Four plays later Adams would find a seam and scamper twenty-eight yards to pay-dirt. Byrd's PAT was good and the Generals led 14-0 with 8;22 to play in the first. Riverheads would try to mount a drive moving down inside William Campbell territory but after a first down offside on the Generals making it first and five for the Gladiators--the Generals defense would stuff the Gladiators on four straight plays giving the ball back to the Generals on downs. "That was a great defensive stand by our kids," said defensive coordinator John Meadows.
