The Altavista Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office recently made arrests in a drug bust after an investigation lasting several months, according to Deputy Chief Ken Walsh of the Altavista Police Department.

Walsh said on Tuesday that 13 individuals had been arrested and charged with a variety of drug offenses.

Those living in Altavista were arrested March 12, and all of those for whom warrants were issued have been arrested, he said.

He said the investigation was conducted by the same multi-jurisdictional narcotics investigative task force that made two drug busts in 2012.

The task force was formed in March 2012, and according to Campbell County Sheriff’s Office Maj. L.T. Guthrie last year, it was formed so that the two agencies could pool resources and personnel in narcotics investigations. Also, it was done because the two agencies were often going after the same individuals suspected of drug activity, he said.

Walsh said both departments made the arrests in the drug bust just completed.

He said the task force is continuing to investigate drug trafficking offenses as part of an ongoing investigation.

The following individuals have been arrested and charged:

Keiona Renee Barksdale, 27, 2150 Sinai Road, South Boston, charged with two felony counts of distribution of cocaine, one count of felony conspiracy to distribute cocaine and one count of child abuse or neglect with reckless disregard for life;
