Three vehicles, including a small Campbell County school bus, were involved in an accident near Altavista Combined School Wednesday afternoon as school was letting out.

Altavista Police Administrative Officer Paul Smith said a car, sport utility vehicle and bus were in the accident, which happened at the intersection of Bedford Avenue and 10th Street about 2:45 p.m.

Smith said the driver of the car was treated by Altavista Emergency Medical Services for minor injuries, but refused further treatment. He said neither the SUV driver nor the bus driver was hurt. Smith said children were on the school, but no one was hurt.

Names of the drivers were not available Thursday morning. Smith said police were still working on the accident report.

Smith said it appears the car, which was headed east on Bedford Avenue, sideswiped the front of the bus as it came into the intersection. The car then slid sideways and hit the front end of the SUV.

He said the bus and SUV had minor damage, while the car had heavy damage.

Smith said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
