The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings next week on proposals to further restrict through trucks on roads leading to the Dominion power plant in Hurt.
The Virginia Department of Transportation approved a request from supervisors to restrict tractor-trailers on Rockford School Road, Blue Ridge Drive and East Hurt Road between Route 40 and Ricky Van Shelton Drive in Hurt in late 2010.
However, trucks are finding ways to get around the restriction by using other secondary roads, said County Administrator Dan Sleeper.
In some cases, said Sleeper, roads being used are even narrower than Blue Ridge Drive.
To clamp down and enforce restrictions, supervisors plan to ask VDOT to prohibit through trucks on Clover and Stone roads (Route 633) and Wards Road (Route 640) to Grit Road (Route 668) and Sycamore Road (Route 931).
The board will hold public hearings on the additional restrictions Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in the General District Courtroom in Chatham.
VDOT has the final say.
