Dale Moore said the outcry when Main Street Café closed was “unbelievable.”
Moore and wife Lisa own the restaurant, which closed Sept. 22 after being open since March 2007.
Tuesday morning, Moore said they received letters, telephone calls and Facebook messages from people asking them to reconsider. Included in that were lots of responses from senior citizens in the community.
“I didn’t realize it was that big of a deal for the community and the senior citizens,” Moore said.
Because of the outcry, the Moores are reopening the café Monday, Nov. 12.
Things will be a little different. The restaurant and gathering place at the corner of Main Street and Campbell Avenue will be open for lunch only on Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Moore said the menu will be smaller. Instead of 55 things, it will be reduced to the top 25 best-selling items. The café will continue to offer sandwiches, baked goods and coffee.
He said some changes will be made in the kitchen to try to make the business more efficient.
“We’re going to come back and be as efficient as we can be and get it to break even.”
When the Moores announced the closing, they said the café had never broken even with its revenues and expenses.
Jonathan and Hannah Mitchell, who had worked at the restaurant, will manage it.
The gift shop in the building had remained open after the café closed.
