Altavista police officers arrested a Greensboro, N.C., woman at McDonald’s Monday afternoon in connection with a Sunday homicide in Greensboro.
Deputy Chief Ken Walsh said Marisol Ciera Morris, 21, was arrested for the Greensboro homicide, which followed a large altercation after she left a nightclub. Walsh said at least one other person is being sought in connection with the crime.
Morris, who’s from Charlottesville, is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail under no bond. Extradition procedures to send her back to Greensboro are ongoing.
Two other women with Morris were not charged.
“They didn’t have an active part in the homicide,” Walsh said. Since they weren’t charged, Walsh didn’t release their names. He said the last time he saw them, they were making arrangements to get back to Greensboro.
Walsh said police received information from Campbell County dispatch Monday afternoon that a silver BMW with temporary North Carolina tags was headed north on U.S. 29.
About 3:15 p.m., police observed the vehicle in the drive-thru line at McDonalds, located on the corner of Main Street and Bedford Avenue. For public safety reasons, Walsh said he decided to let it come through the line. Once the car got through, police stopped it and detained the three occupants.
Greensboro police detectives were notified and came to Altavista to assist with the investigation, Walsh said.
Walsh said the three women decided to come into Altavista to get something to eat on their way to Charlottesville. He said they ordered a few Big Macs, fries and soft drinks.
Walsh said Altavista officers did an outstanding job in dealing with the situation.
“I’m very proud of our response and efforts to take the suspect into custody,” he said.
He also noted the good work of the other deputies and officers responding from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, Hurt Police Department and Virginia State Police.
The investigation is continuing.
