Pittsylvania County Bar Association endorsed Chatham attorney Brian H. Turpin for the county's Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judge Tuesday.

J & D Judge Stacey W. Moreau is widely expected to replace Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Judge Charles J. Strauss, who will retire in August.

The bar association - comprised of local lawyers - unanimously endorsed Moreau to replace Strauss last week.

Bar members believe Turpin would be a good candidate to fill the J & D bench if Virginia legislators promote Moreau to circuit court.

"I was very pleased that we, as an association, were able to meet to consider who we would endorse for this possible vacancy," bar president Les Adams said.

A graduate of N.C. State University, Turpin, 49, received a law degree from Mercer University in Georgia.

"I am humbled and enthusiastic about the endorsement by colleagues for judicial vacancy," Turpin, who has practiced law for 23 years, said.
