A Chatham man died Thursday night after he was accidentally shot by a hunter, according to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
The shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Riddle Road off U.S. 29 between Chatham and Gretna.
Game department officials said the 57-year-old victim was shot by a 62-year-old neighbor.
The hunter apparently mistook the man for a deer.
The names of the victim and hunter have not been released.
