PENHOOK — Such nice people. Friendly to customers and colleagues. Devoted to each other.

That is how a stunned Smith Mountain Lake community remembered Kim and Karen Yee, who were found dead last Tuesday in Penhook, victims of an apparent murder-suicide.

Karen Swanson Yee, 48, and Kim Bryan Yee, 56, were killed by gunshot wounds, the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said.

Karen Yee was the daughter of Pittsylvania County Commissioner of Revenue Sam Swanson Jr.

“This case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, pending results from the medical examiner’s office,” Lt. Todd Maxey said in a news release.
