CLIMAX — They will be back at it again this fall—not making moonshine—but pretending to make the illegal brew for the Discovery Channel.
Stars of the reality series, Tim Smith, Steve Tickle and J.T. Smith, helped raise money for the Climax Volunteer Fire Department Saturday with a meet and greet at the firehouse.
They talked about filming the show, gave autographs, and answered questions from people stopping by.
They also had a slicked up, tuned up, could have been a moonshine smuggler’s car on display.
Many of those who came by were their friends and neighbors. Tim, his wife, Shelby, and their son, J.T., and Tickle live in the Climax community.
Tim is fire chief of the Climax Fire Department.
There was no charge, even for the hot dog dinner cooked up by firefighters, but donations were accepted.
The show’s five segments followed Smith and several other colorful characters as they made moonshine in the mountains of southwest Virginia.
Smith demonstrated how a still site is found, set up and protected. He also demonstrated how liquor is distilled, bottled and transported—all carefully concealed from authorities.
Jesse Tate, an ABC agent, took on the role of law enforcement, tracking and arresting those producing and selling untaxed liquor.
Smith said he, Tickle and J.T. have “done some more filming” and will be back on TV this fall.
