DANVILLE — One of the stars of the reality television series “Moonshiners” has been charged with being drunk in public.

Steven Ray Tickle, 35, of Pittsylvania County, was arrested Thursday afternoon, according to Danville Police Department.

Police said a citizen approached a police officer around 2:41 p.m. and reported that a man was drinking in public while sitting in a convenience store parking lot.

The officer went to Charley's Stop and Shop on Franklin Turnpike to investigate the complaint and found Tickle sitting alone in a vehicle.

He was drinking from an open container, the officer said.

The officer approached Tickle and detected a strong odor of alcohol as well as normal indications of being intoxicated.

When Tickle was unable to make arrangements for someone to pick him up, he was arrested for being drunk in public.

Tickle was carried to jail and released later in the day.

The Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” is in its second season.

Partly filmed in Pittsylvania County, the show features a number of local characters, including Tickle and Tim Smith of Climax.

Smith is the chief of Climax Volunteer Fire Department.
