Viewers who tune in to the Discovery Channel's new reality television series, "Moonshiners," next Tuesday will see Pittsylvania County's own Tim Smith in the lead role.
The show also features Smith's son, J.T., a student at Gretna High School; Smith's friend, Steve Tickle; and Jesse Tate, an ABC agent and former candidate for sheriff.
Tate plays "the Law," according to promos for the series.
"Moonshiners" will premier Dec. 6 at 10 p.m. with the remaining five episodes airing Wednesdays at 10 p.m. beginning Dec. 7.
Smith is contractually barred from talking about "Moonshiners," but has been working on the reality show almost a year.
Smith coordinated and hosted the "Moonshiners Jamboree," which celebrated the southern heritage and history of the illegal whiskey business, for 10 years in Climax.
He has been featured in the History Channel specials "Rumrunners, Moonshiners, and Bootleggers" and "Hillbilly-The Real Story" hosted by country music singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus.
Smith and his wife, Shelby, are active members of Climax Volunteer Fire Department. He has been chief since 2004.
According to Discovery Channel, "Moonshiners" tells the story of those who brew their "shine - often in the woods near their homes using camouflaged equipment - and the local authorities who try to keep them honest."
