GRETNA — Eddie Nelson Cottrell of Gretna, died Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Gretna Health & Rehab.

Born May 15, 1923, in Bedford County he was a son of the late Roy Cottrell and Eunice Johnson Cottrell.

Mr. Cottrell was predeceased by one son, Richard Cottrell; one step-son, Wayne Walden, one brother, Winston and three sisters, Geraldine, Dorothy and Shirley.

He was a retired plant maintenance supervisor for General Motors. Following his retirement he worked for the City of Baltimore, Md. Mr. Cottrell was an Army veteran of World War II and attended Summersett Baptist Church. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed working on old cars.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Adkins Walden Cottrell of the residence; three sons, Dennis Cottrell of Red Line, Pa., Rowland Cottrell of York, Pa., and Timothy Cottrell, Sr. of Windsor, Pa.; three daughters, Lynda Oberlander of Atlanta, Ga., Sandra Osborne of Naples, Fla., and Teresa Gurreri of York, Pa.; three step-sons, Jeff Walden of Gretna, Billy Walden of South Boston and Roy Walden of Chatham; three step-daughters, Becky Dalton of Chatham, Pat Keatts of Gretna, and Diane Earles of Axton; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin. Military honors by the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard will follow the funeral service. Entombment will follow in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore, Md., at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 28, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
