Howard Winford Elder, 70, of 2091 Jennings Lane, Nathalie passed away peacefully Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.  He was the husband of Brenda Ashby Elder.

Alice Hill Pruitt, 92, of B. Street, Brookneal passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home in Lynchburg.  She was the wife of the late William Hector Pruitt.

Annie Mae Hunter Crabtree, 75, of Spring Mill Rd., Concord passed away May 19, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. 

John Morris Hawkins, 26, of Lynchburg, formerly of Brookneal, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Jack Robinson Poindexter of Long Island, who died in Charlottesville on January 14, 2012, was be held at the Poindexter Cemetery at Seneca on Saturday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m.  After the ceremony, a reception will be held for family and friends across the road on the lawn of the Poindexter family ancestral home.

Virgil Wayne Poindexter, 54, of Seneca, died unexpectedly April 13, 2012, in the Philippines.   

Daryl Lee Beadles, 44 of 126 Swallow Lane, Brookneal died Sunday, March 18.  He was the husband of Cindy Beadles for 12 years.  He was born in Halifax County on September 8, 1967, a son of Mary Ellen Beadles and the late Floyd Lee Beadles.  He was an employee of Moore’s Electric in Altavista.  

James W. Angel, age 86, passed away on March 3, 2012, after an extended illness. 

Phillip Earl Guthrie, 51, of L. P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Nathalie, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, at Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was the husband of Lynne Jennings Guthrie.

Warren Finch "Sonny" Monroe died on Feb. 14, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital, with his family by his side.

Josephine Wright Daniel, 90, of Brookneal passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012.  She was the wife first to the late James McDaniel and second to the late Claude Daniel.

Surrounded by her family, Patsy Reynolds Rosser, age 80, of 3760 Lambs Church Road, was called home by her Lord and Savior Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Hospice Care, Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of Hugh William Rosser for 61 years.

Louise Carr Perry Rudder, age 98, formerly of Nathalie, a resident of the Park-Oak Grove in Roanoke, was born to the late Rufus B. Carr II and Mamie Carr on April 26, 1913. She was the widow of James Dennis Perry of  Durham, N.C., and Carroll Eugene Rudder of Nathalie.

Chester Edward Cook, 61, of Terry Road, Brookneal passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at home.  He was the husband of Susan Chapp Cook.

Grace Hamilton Straw of Silver Spring, Maryland and Vero Beach, Florida.

James Mason Rucker, 85, born in Petersburg, May 18, 1926 died Nov. 25, 2011. He was the son of the late Claude L. and Mildred L. Rucker.

Frances Elder Ward, 89, of Robin Rd., Brookneal passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ernest Raymond Ward.

Rev. R. Elton McDowell, 96, of Carolina Ave., Phenix passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Southside Community Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy Harris McDowell for over 72 years.

Julia Collins, 90, of Highland Springs, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011. She was the widow of Wilbur Eugene Collins.

Charles Samuel "Bill" Scott, 88, of Hat Creek Road, Brookneal, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at home.

Allison Stiles Pollard, 54, of Patrick Henry Hwy, Brookneal, passed away, Friday October 7, 2011. She was the wife of Sandy Pollard.

Frances Lavonne Funk, 74 years old, of Tip Lane, Brookneal, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 19. She was born to Walter Raleigh Wood and Flora Bell Hatfield Wood on Jan. 5, 1937, in Blowing Rock, N.C.

Anna Frances Wheelock, 75, died Sept. 19, at The Summit Assisted Living in Lynchburg.
