Warren Finch "Sonny" Monroe died on Feb. 14, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born in Rustburg, on July 12, 1928, to W. B. and Pearl Finch Monroe.

Monroe lived his entire life on the family farm in Rustburg, except for the time in the early '50s, when he served his country in an Army MASH unit at Fort Pickens.

He continued his family's farming tradition and managed the New Farmers Warehouse in Lynchburg for many years. He was also a well-known auctioneer.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Jeanne Buck Monroe of Lynchburg; his brother, M. B. "Pete" Monroe and wife Grace of Rustburg; his sister, Virginia Belmont of Daytona Beach, Fla.; his stepchildren, Peter "Coby" Buck and wife Cynthia of Charlotte, N.C., Dwight Buck and wife Manena of Albertson, N.C. and Valerie Cress and husband Jackie of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Baldock of Lynchburg.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at New Chapel Baptist Church, 1977 New Chapel Road, Rustburg, with the Rev. Timothy Dooley and the Rev. Sue Keen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to New Chapel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 515, Rustburg, Va. 24588 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
