The roar of racing engines will return to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 1 for the running of the Gazette-Virginian NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program.
Four races are scheduled as part of the night and the first event will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap event for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
As the 2012 season winds to a close, Matthew Bowling, a one-time winner this year, continues to lead the way in the chase for the NASCAR Whelen
All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship.
Bowling owns a 31-point lead over two-time winner Peyton Sellers and a 32-point advantage over nine-time winner Lee Pulliam in the battle for the track championship.
Sellers is a former track champion and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, and Pulliam is the current leader in the battle for this year’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship. Pulliam owns 20 overall victories this season.
Also featured on Sept. 1 will be a race for the Limited Sportsman Division and twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
Bobby McCarty and Danny Willis Jr., the two dominant performers in the Limited Sportsman ranks this year, sit atop the point standings. McCarty is 16 points ahead of Willis, while Blake Stallings is third and is just five points ahead of fourth-place Mike Jones.
Trey Crews will head into the twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division on Sept. 1 with a 21-point advantage over Joe Allred III. Randy Hupp is third in the championship chase and is 24 points behind Allred.
Pit registration for the Gazette-Virginian NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program will begin at 1 p.m. on Sept. 1. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children under the age of 6 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
