Welcome to a New Year at the Appomattox County Library System. We have made lots of changes in the past year and are looking forward to more changes. We are purging old records, if your card has expired, or if you have moved, you will need to show a photo ID and proof of current address before your account can be re-activated for use. It is your responsibility to make sure that your account information, such as address and phone numbers are current.

Get Ahead - Take Summer Classes!
Thanks to Santa Clause for stopping by the Jamerson Library on Thursday, December 15th. Santa took a break to visit the library and saw approximately 50 children and adults join in the fun. Santa and the attendees enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate, while parents took photos. Mrs. Clause joined him on his working vacation to Virginia to bake Christmas cookies to fatten him up for his yearly trip around the world.
Have you ever had a chance to find treasure? Well some Appomattox High School students got a chance to do just that, except their treasure was edible. Students in Mrs. Mett's agricultural class recently got some hands-on experience with using GPS units. GPS/GIS is one of six components in the Virginia 4-H Natural Resources and Environmental Education (NREE) curriculum, and correlates to the Virginia SOLs.
HOLIDAY RECYCLING
Cold weather is upon us, and Christmas is fast approaching, either library is the hottest spot to be in Appomattox. With the latest best sellers, holiday movies and music CDs we have lots to choose from, at no charge to check out. We would like to highlight the following best sellers; Explosive Eighteen-Janet Evanovich, 11/22/63-Stephen King, Kill Alex Cross-James Patterson, The Litigators-John Grisham, V is for Vengeance-Sue Grafton, The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks, and Zero Day-David Baldacci.

Spring Semester Class Openings
Hunting? Games? Photography? Snacks? Fun with 4-H? Wow, these activities sure beat sitting at home alone watching cartoons! Where do you get to do all this? Well, that would have to be the AES Extracurricular After-School Clubs. Each Monday, students at AES who signed up for the program have activities they get to do in their club. There are currently 11 clubs offering a wide variety of interesting and educational hands-on fun for the youth. These include: Art in Math; All-Star Games; Photography; Scrap Booking; Sign Language; Hunting; Snack-a-Palooza; Reader's Theater; Team Crafts; Spanish safari; and my Fun with 4-H.

The Jamerson Library is all decked out in for the holidays, and we would like to thank the Appomattox Garden Club for all their hard work in decorating the outside of our building. For over five years they have offered their time and talent to make the library a festive part of the downtown Christmas décor. This year is the first year that the Library is participating in the Sunday downtown Christmas events, by providing a warm spot to get a cup of hot chocolate. ACLA (Appomattox County Library Association) is providing the volunteer staffing for this event and we like to thank them for all their efforts.

The 4-H office was really "starting to look a lot like Christmas" recently when the 4-H Junior Master Gardener afterschool club learned how to make wreaths.
