It’s official: Tractor Supply Company is locating a store in Appomattox.

Construction is currently under way at the old Food Lion store location in History Junction Plaza on U.S. 460 West, where the Tractor Supply store will be located.

According to a press release from Tractor Supply, the Appomattox location will employ 12-to-17 full- and part-time workers.

Construction is scheduled to be completed sometime in late April, according to Tractor Supply District Manager Mike Brown.

Motorists have likely noticed that a fenced-in area has been erected in the parking lot of the Tractor Supply site.

That fenced-in exterior space will be used for storage and displaying items, such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment.

The Appomattox site will be Tractor Supply’s 42nd Virginia location.

According to the press release, Tractor Supply Company is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the United States and has been operating in Virginia since 1996.

“Tractor Supply looks forward to being a member of the Appomattox community,” said Brown. “Appomattox is a great fit due to the part-time and hobby farmers, and horse owners in the area.”

The contractor for the project, Simmons Construction of New Tazewell, Tenn., began construction on Feb. 5.

Tractor Supply Company, listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange as TSCO, operates more than 1,150 stores in 45 states.

Tractor Supply Company stores are focused on supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers. The company also serves the maintenance needs of those who enjoy the rural lifestyle, as well as tradesmen and small businesses.

Tractor Supply Company stores are located in the outlying towns in major metropolitan markets and in rural communities.

The company offers a comprehensive selection of merchandise for the health, care, growth and containment of horses, livestock and pets.

The store also offers a broad selection of agricultural products; and tools and hardware selected for our customers’ needs.

In addition, the company sells light truck equipment, work clothing for the entire family, and an extensive line of seasonal products including lawn and garden power equipment products.

Food Lion vacated the Tractor Supply site at History Junction Plaza in February 2012, marking the second grocery store chain to leave Appomattox in two years.

Wilbun’s Supermarket went out of business on Confederate Boulevard in July 2010.
