The dogs and cats didn't get any turkey on Thanksgiving day, but they sure made up for it on Friday, the next day, thanks to the generosity of some unknown person or persons.
I am writing to make my opinions heard in this county.
Congratulations Sheriff Barry Letterman. You are the man to get the job done and for Appomattox to keep a clean department.
The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary joined with the National Education in 1921 to sponsor the first American Education Week. This year it will be marked from Sunday November 13 through Saturday November 19.
I have always found it frustrating that our citizens have such short memories or don't take the time to understand our history. Let's see if we can find the common denominator. Starting in the late 19th century and up through 1920, women joined together in protest, marches, boycotts, and rallies to draw attention and fight for the right to be equal with a man, just to be able to vote.
On Veterans Day we pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women who in defense of our freedom have bravely worn the uniform of the United States. Veterans are men and women who served in the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard, in times of war or peace. The reason we enjoy the freedoms and comforts we have is because they were willing to answer the call when asked to protect our Nation from some of the most brutal and ruthless tyrants, terrorists, and militaries the world has ever know. They stood tall in the face of grave danger and helped secure the freedom we enjoy today.
A couple of weeks ago there was a letter from a concerned grandparent, Jim Booth, asking for people to donate their used instruments to the Appomattox County Band program. I am extremely happy to report we have had 4 donations and 4 more students, who did not have instruments, are able to play!
Fire & Safety would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone for making this years Free & Safe Halloween another great success! With everyone's help, we were able to provide a safe and fun environment for over 500 children and parents in our community.
Thank you Mr. Booth for such a fine editorial (Oct 19) about the ACHS Marching Band and its need for gently used musical instruments.
I have known W. Todd Craft since my father hired him as a deputy 28 years ago.
To the citizens of Appomattox County,
It has been an honor and privilege to represent Appomattox County in the House of Delegates for the last 26 years. It is my hope that the citizens of Appomattox County would vote for Matthew Fariss for my position in the House of Delegates in this upcoming election on November 8.
This letter is written to publicly support Captain Barry Letterman and his campaign for Sheriff of Appomattox County. Mr. Letterman is a Godly man who over the years has shown to have the highest respect for the law and civil rights of the citizens of Appomattox County. I believe Barry has proved to be a committed, efficient, successful, and trustworthy law official. Captain Letterman has repeatedly demonstrated true leadership and professionalism in dealing with the complexity of his position. I believe Barry Letterman has gone "above and beyond" in his efforts to protect our community in keeping it safe.
To the citizens of Appomattox County I invite you to come out and vote November 8, 2011 for W. Todd Craft for Sheriff.
In 1997 I was privileged to have Todd Craft as a football coach for the Appomattox County 8th grade football team. As coach, Todd taught me the roles of leadership and responsibility on and off the field. Todd gave the time out of his day after working a full day at the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office to help with the youth in Appomattox County and to ensure that he helped to guide us in making the right decisions in life.
I am writing to publicly show my support for Sheriff-Candidate Barry Letterman, a man who has devoted his whole life to law enforcement.
I'm from Nelson County. Connie Brennan is my Supervisor and I went to high school with her in Northern Virginia. I know Connie Brennan.
On October 5th, The Times-Virginian ran a front page article entitled "Fariss Open About His Past." What a joke! Last Thursday, The News & Advance reported that Fariss has yet another incident on his criminal record, a protective order against him in 2002 - "history of violence" it says. Fariss had no comment.
Barry Letterman for Sheriff.
This letter is to encourage the citizen's of Appomattox County to vote for Barry E. Letterman for Sheriff.
Elections, party doesn't matter.
I am writing this letter in support of Barry E. Letterman for Sheriff. I have known Captain Letterman for many years and believe his 28 years experience will serve this county well. He has the traits to be a good leader for this county. If he is elected as our sheriff, we all can be assured that every citizen will be respected and that he will run the department with the utmost integrity. He will show no favoritism. Everyone will be treated equal. His morals, values, and experience are unsurpassable.
On November 8, 2011 we must make a decision on who will serve as our Sheriff for the next four years. As you are aware, there are three candidates running and of the three we must decide which one will give us the same professional service that we have become accustomed to. I have served this community in several capacities over the last twenty-seven years. I have served as a volunteer firefighter with the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department and a paramedic with the Appomattox Volunteer Rescue Squad, my paying job is as a Sergeant with the Appomattox Sheriff's Office.
I started my employment with the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office over 16 years ago as a field deputy. I currently hold the rank of Sergeant, assigned to Appomattox County High School as their SRO. I arrived at the sheriff's office in the summer of 1995, as a sworn police officer from another department and found myself in the middle of a sheriff's race between, at the time, Investigators Wilson Staples and Ricky Baldwin. I did not publicly support either candidate at that time, due to my being newly hired and not having much work related background with either individual.
Just a thought after reading all the headlines this week involving the upcoming elections:
I encourage the voters in Appomattox County to get out and vote for Butch Bailey, a candidate for Sheriff. Having known Butch for many years, I am certain that, given the opportunity to serve, he will make the citizens of the county proud.
In wholehearted support of Barry Letterman for Sheriff, I want to encourage you to consider the necessary characteristics for leadership. As his eldest daughter, I don't think anyone could know the qualities that Letterman possesses better than myself. I understand that some may regard this letter as biased; nevertheless, I'm sure you would agree that a father is the ultimate position of leadership.
Every school system has their own problems and issues that need to be dealt with. However, in the midst all of the negative feedback and poor remarks regarding our school system, I wanted to pass on a moment in which I saw several teachers of Appomattox Primary in a whole different light.
I have been following the candidacy of Bert Dodson and Connie Brennan, who are running for state offices from our 22nd and 5th district respectively: Bert Dodson for State Senate and Connie Brennan for Assembly Delegate.
I am writing this letter in support of Captain Barry Letterman for Sheriff. I have known Barry for many years.
While I do not live in the 59th District, I worked for many years as an environmental advocate with Delegate Watkins Abbitt, who was forever supportive of conservation issues before the General Assembly. From his membership on the State Water Control Board and the Uranium study committee in the '80s to his voting record on conservation, Watkins advocated that Virginians enjoy a healthy environment. Thanks to his input on the current Uranium committee, the scientific study of Uranium now underway must include a review of activity in areas comparable to conditions in Virginia (wet weather, many streams and rivers, and high water tables).
I am writing this letter to the voting citizens of Appomattox County asking for your support on November 8th for Captain Barry E. Letterman as Sheriff.
Citizens of Appomattox County,
As a resident of Hamlet Road, I am happy to be able to once again vote in Red House. I want to thank Mr. W. Murrie Bates, Jr., (Electoral Board) for you letter dated June 17, 2009, to my husband and I, acknowledging receipt of my petition from voters, and special thanks to Mr. Benny Marston for delivering that petition to the proper authorities voicing our concerns about having to pass by the polls in Red House and drive to Phenix to vote.
Without question, almost everyone in the Appomattox community would love to see a beautiful hotel/conference facility located in the area. The question is, how do we convince the folks who build hotel/conference facilities to do just that, or what can we do to get it done ourselves?
As Election Day draws nearer, we need to consider the candidates running for the position of county sheriff very closely, since the position is of great importance.
Every minute of every single day someone is in need of a unit of blood. You never know when that someone could be you or someone you love. So why should you give blood? You should give because it is simple, stress free, and satisfying. Giving blood is something everyone should consider doing.
Cops don't have to be cocky just because they are one. I always have the utmost respect but now I'm second-guessing myself as a very upset gaga/nana.
I am writing this letter to let everyone in the County of Appomattox know why I support Barry E. Letterman for Sheriff.
It's time we give Barry a promotion!
